I stumbled upon your blog and had to comment on this particular post. That is a Blue Bottle as we call them in Australia. Good thing you didn't touch as they give a nice sting that leaves you raw and oh so itchy. Very common on Aussie beaches and avoided! ;)
We guess they are Jellyfish, this last one was the only one we saw with the long tenicals or what ever you call them.
